Clinical trials that specifically study mesothelioma patients, in addition to the advances made by cancer researchers, allow researchers, medical teams and scientists to develop experimental therapies to treat mesothelioma patients. In clinical trials, patients are grouped by the medical community according to their cancer stage. Dependant on the stage of their cancer, they may be eligible for specific clinical trials which are being developed that may assist in providing new therapeutic options to mesothelioma patients. In addition to surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, the participation in clinical trials is another option available. Clinical trials offer a form of treatment that is still being tested for safety and effectiveness and not yet approved by the FDA for the treatment of mesothelioma. Clinical trials can include anything from experimental drug therapies, to surgical procedures, combination therapies or other methods that are being used as new and experimental ways to treat mesothelioma.
